We have just finished our last RoundTable event of the year. Whether we had the pleasure of meeting you in one of the five cities in Germany, or in the case you were unable to attend, we would like to share some of the key insights with you.
DE-CIX updates
Traffic peaks: Everyone favourite topic is the traffic peaks, and we took a deeper look at the German exchanges, notably Frankfurt and Munich which have both had peaks this autumn, Frankfurt crossing the 16 Tbps line and Munich closing on 200 Gbps, with current peak at 197 Gbps. We also took a closer look at to the growth of connected ASNs and what kind of traffic contributes to the traffic peaks.
100G LR: At the beginning of October, we introduced LR transceivers for all new 100G ports in Frankfurt to help our customers to ensure their networks are ready to handle the demands of the future. We will continue to support 100G LR4 for all existing contracts. However, you can take advantage of LR and switch your Access to 100G LR.
Peering management: Our peering consultant Jonathan Matauschek presented case studies about typical peering configuration errors, and what is the best practice to avoid these errors with some examples of tools and crosschecks.
Service insights: Christian Petrasch, product owner for our service insights, showed participants around the improved and enhanced service insights on the DE-CIX portal. From multiple insights for ingress and egress traffic, traffic metrics showing flow traffic with communication partners, top talker metrics, DDoS dashboard, and telemetry of your ports and services – there really is a lot you can analyze and inspect in terms of your ports and services.
The DE-CIX portal is the place for you to manage your interconnection services. We are constantly working on adding new services and features to improve the experience – lately we released dashboards to give you more insights into Cloud ROUTER usage and DDoS traffic.
Thank you to our partners and special guest Harald Summa
Harald Summa, CEO of DE-CIX from 1996 to 2022, took part in the events in Leipzig and Düsseldorf and gave the audience an exciting presentation on the founding of DE-CIX, the development of the first national and international locations and the DE-CIX of today with over 50 locations worldwide.
Harald impressively illustrated how important our partners at the various locations are for our ecosystem. Without our partners, we would not have such a stable and growing ecosystem. Our special thanks go to PYUR and envia TEL who were our co-hosts in Leipzig, to Peter Hansen from myLOC and Jörg Poldrack from Digital Realty, who gave short presentations from their companies in Düsseldorf, and Felix Breitenbach and Bernhard Huter, who drew attention to the special local challenges of Munich as an Internet location.
Insights into the data center market
In Frankfurt we had many interesting partners joining us: Digital Realty, Inter-link, Drees & Sommer, and exa / nLighten. In a panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges for the data center market in Frankfurt, we discussed the challenges resulting from the current energy legislation and possible solutions. A complex topic that was presented by the panelists in a comprehensible and highly interesting manner.
Thank you Christian Backe, Sales Manager, Inter.link, Mathias Franke, Manager, Drees & Sommer, Chad McCarthy, CTO / Co-Founder, nLighten, and Dirk Reinecke, Director Sales and Marketing, Digital Realty, for a fruitful conversation.
Roland Broch, Senior Project Manager Digital Infrastructure, eco - Verband der Internetwirtschaft e. V., was the moderator of the panel, and he also joined us in other RoundTable events to give talk about trends and digital developments in Germany. Did you know that every year in Germany the new data center capacities equal to the total capacity of 2010?
