Survey: Enterprises seeking to upgrade their systems for ongoing digitalization

Enterprises across different sectors are taking decisive action on the digitalization of their internal processes and are searching for better ways to connect to important software and services. This is the main finding of our survey conducted in the enterprise market in Germany and the US.

Performance issues and security concerns

The survey revealed that:

  • Three-quarters of companies with a workforce of more than 2,500 are planning to upgrade their connectivity solutions for remote working and ERP applications within the next two years.
  • 80 percent of enterprises are experiencing an increase in performance issues with enterprise-grade software packages, such as Microsoft 365.
  • 50 percent of corporate IT managers have concerns about confidential information being exposed to security threats on the public Internet.

Increased working from home due to Covid-19 saw an increase in support tickets for performance issues relating to the enterprise-grade software packages provided through Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics. There is also a concern over confidential information being exposed to security threats as well as lack of insights into where critical data is being routed. To secure their data and to integrate remote working into the overall long-term IT strategy, enterprises are seeking to equip themselves with the best and most secure performance of their IT systems.

DE-CIX commissioned the survey with the German market research company Research in Action to analyze how companies’ digital transformation will continue to evolve in the near future. The study included 200 enterprises each from Germany and the US with a workforce of more than 2,500 staff and a minimum annual revenue of 250 million Euro.
