DE-CIX launches its first Internet Exchanges in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro

We are excited to announce that we are expanding our presence to South America – our fifth continent – with the launch of two new locations, in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.

Key digital hubs

Brazil, home to 165 million Internet users and one of the strongest economies in the world, is a strategic choice for expansion. Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are digital powerhouses of the country, hosting critical infrastructure for many of the nation's largest companies and service providers.

The country has an enormous demand for reliable, scalable, and resilient connectivity solutions. Despite being a large and mature digital market, Brazil still lacks a significant number of Internet Exchanges that cater to its population size. Our entry into this market offers not only an alternative but also a complementary solution to existing exchanges, enhancing redundancy, and expanding choices for businesses and network operators.

Bridging Brazil with the world

The Internet Exchanges in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will be hosted across several data centers. In Sao Paulo, the Elea Data Centers SPO1, Equinix SP4, and Ascenty SP4 facilities will serve as the initial locations. Meanwhile, in Rio de Janeiro, the exchanges will be launched in the Elea Data Centers RJO1 and Equinix RJ2.

The new Internet Exchanges will be connected to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem, linking with other major exchanges such as DE-CIX New York, Lisbon, and Madrid. This will ensure a seamless exchange of data across the Atlantic, providing Brazilian companies with access to thousands of networks across the Americas and Europe.

By offering a wide array of enterprise-grade interconnection services, including cloud connectivity through our Cloud Exchange, the Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro IXs will open new possibilities for Internet service providers, content providers, and enterprises alike.

The new Internet Exchanges in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are expected to be operational next year.
