DE-CIX Barcelona celebrates its first birthday with a new partnership
A year ago, DE-CIX Barcelona opened for business. Today, the Internet Exchange connects a mix of 40 networks including network operators (carriers), Internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, and enterprises from Catalonia and Andorra, as well as global players such as Microsoft and Google.
New premium enabled site at Barcelona CLS
On the occasion of the first birthday, we are happy to announce a strategic partnership with AFR-IX telecom, operator of the Barcelona Cable Landing Station (CLS). Barcelona CLS is a neutral colocation and interconnection facility for submarine fiber cables and will become the fourth premium enabled site for DE-CIX Barcelona, alongside bitNAP, Equinix, and EdgeConneX.
International digital hub
Bringing the local and global interconnection and infrastructure players together in this new partnership will result in better connectivity between Europe and Africa, enhancing Barcelona’s position as one of the gateways on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. From 2024 the Barcelona CLS will become home to the new Medusa Submarine Cable System. This will further develop Barcelona’s position as an international digital hub and will take the DE-CIX Southern European interconnection ecosystem as a whole to a new level.
