Richmond (VA), 9 November 2022: DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator and home to the largest carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem in North America, is pleased to announce the official opening of DE-CIX Richmond Internet Exchange. The formal launch yesterday was attended by Virginia state, national, and international dignitaries, including Vint Cerf, the ‘Father of the Internet’ and Chief Evangelist at Google, and the Secretary of Administration of Virginia, Lyn McDermid.
DE-CIX Richmond, which sports the award-winning DE-CIX Apollon interconnection platform technology, was formally opened as part of the IEIC Global NAP Summit 2.0, hosted by The Internet Ecosystem Innovation Committee (IEIC), together with DE-CIX and other partners. The Internet Exchange offers direct, low-latency connectivity, serving networks of all kinds – e.g., Internet service providers (ISPs), content networks, and content delivery networks (CDNs) – and provides specialist interconnection services for the needs of enterprises in industries like finance, automotive, healthcare, logistics, retail, etc. The interconnection services available include direct connectivity to clouds and business applications sourced from the cloud, such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics, as well as Closed User Groups (CUGs) for creating bespoke environments for exclusive and secure data exchange between business partners along the value chain.
“We are thrilled to bring our platform to this very important market, supporting the further digital transformation of Virginia,” comments Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX. “Not only traditional network providers, but also enterprises – in Virginia and beyond – are in search of simplified, flexible, secure, and high-performance solutions that support their connectivity needs in an agile manner, now and for the future. DE-CIX Richmond delivers robust and low-latency connectivity to clouds and other networks, serving local, national, and international network operators. DE-CIX Richmond is key to creating more distributed and diverse ecosystems on the East Coast, bringing connectivity solutions into the closest proximity of businesses and users. We are passionate about bringing data and interconnection services closer to the users, and now DE-CIX North America spans from east to west, with more on the way.”
DE-CIX Richmond offers multi-service interconnection. Services that can be booked through DE-CIX Richmond include DirectCLOUD, offering direct access to leading cloud providers, direct access to the Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics software-as-a-service clouds through the Microsoft Azure Peering Service, further enterprise solutions such as Closed User Groups, and more. Directly connected to DE-CIX New York – the 5th largest IX in the US, achieving more than a terabit per second of traffic at peak times – DE-CIX Richmond provides connected networks access to content and networks that cannot be accessed anywhere else in the mid-Atlantic. DE-CIX Richmond also provides diverse access to content for networks across the region, an option which is being taken up by companies needing real-time access to their data, such as in the AdTech sector. DE-CIX Richmond is a standalone platform powered by Nokia, with direct access available from EdgeConneX, QTS Richmond, and Pixel Factory data centers. DE-CIX Richmond offers connectivity between Richmond and the operator’s other North American IXs in New York, Dallas, Phoenix, and Chicago. Together, the five IXs make up the largest carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem in North America, covering the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southwestern (East and West) regions. Customers connected to the DE-CIX North America interconnection ecosystem are also able to connect to DE-CIX’s IXs across the Atlantic.
